Its location, near the Jordan River and surrounded by fertile land, has made it a vital agricultural hub throughout history. It was entirely inhabited by Muslims and Christians until it was captured and occupied in 1948.
Besan, famous for its abundant water, beautiful gardens and fertile soil, produced everything from olives and grapes to figs, almonds, and hearty grains like wheat.
